Threadmaker ~ Identity and Website

Just launched an exciting new site, my first foray into the world of fashion and e-commerce! ThreadMaker is a talent showcase for new designers, and a platform for independent brands wishing to grow their market. The brief was to design a beautiful, simple and contemporary e-commerce site that looks slick and professional and functions smoothly. Integrating bespoke fashion photography into the homepage has given the site a really rich, magazine like quality.

As always i worked with a small team of highly trained and trusted geeks from Brighton and we have produced a site that the client loves. Really pleased with this one and can’t wait to purchase some of their lovely dresses!

Great news to hear that Cogapp recently picked up a BIMA award for the interactives produced for the Great North Museum. The category was ‘the best Offline: Kiosk, Installation or On-Site Application’. I lead the design and produced all the creative on the Medieval Case Study interactive (featured on my site) and assisted on the design of the Set Works Bench, an interactive guide to an extensive display of taxidermy animals.

My Girl Friday ~ Identity and Website

A fifties inspired branding project for a client setting up a freelance PA service. Once the identity was formed, we created a simple site that they would be able to update and add new features to when necessary. As always, technical wizardry was provided by one of my trusted crew of hardworking geeks.

Creative Nation ~ Website design

I was approached by this newly formed creative production agency and asked to design them a simple and quirky site.

I created large monochrome and red image backgrounds which expand to fill large monitors. The content sits in layered boxes on top. The idea behind the backgrounds was to give the site some visual richness at a stage while this fledgling business is still collating the first pieces for its portfolio. Each page has a background image relating to the content, the site can be easily refreshed by creating new images.

Great North Museum ~ Medieval Case Study Interactive

This interactive was part of a set of digital installations provided by Cogapp to the Great North Museum : Hancock in Newcastle upon Tyne for their launch on 23rd May 2009. I was lead designer on the medieval project, coming up with the concept, handling all design work and overseeing the build by Joshua Routh, Cogapp’s in-house flash resource. Cogapp developed the installations in conjunction with The Great North Museum, Casson Mann and Nick Bell Design.

I collaged images creating a touch-screen table top environment where children can explore the three sections of the interactive, finding out about people and objects from Medieval times and about archaeology.

Garage Studios ~ Studio Lighting Course
I attended this 2 day lighting course at Garage Studios in Brighton back in May and it was fantastic! It really helped me understand lighting and different effects that can be achieved with fairly simple set ups. It was run by the very excellent DarkDaze who was a really inspirational teacher and uber lighting geek. I’d definitely recommend it to any creatives like myself who want to extend their knowledge of studio and location lighting.

Also the first time i am aware of being blogged about, by model Sally Reynolds. Super.

The Jewish Museum Kid Zone ~ Part of the web design project i worked on with Cogapp for The Jewish Museum in New York. They needed imagery to support the families section, especially in the Kid Zone area. I created some roughly cut silhouettes of traditional Jewish objects and of childrens craft materials to add visual interest to this area of the site aimed at young children.

Garage Studios Flash Photography Course ~ I recently attended a one day course at Garage Studios to improve my knowledge of flash lighting. The day was excellent and jam packed with advice about equipment and technique. Pictured above are two portraits i took of Flickrite Tommy Forbes who was my partner for the day.
